Huadian Shaanxi Energy, a subsidiary of China Huadian Corporation (Beijing), has signed a joint-venture agreement with the Shaanxi Coal & Chemical Industry Group to construct a 4 GW coal fired power plant in Ankang, Shaanxi.

The construction of the plant is expected to begin in 2009 and would start operation in the beginning of the twelfth Five Year Plan, which is from 2011 to 2015.

As soon as the construction of the 4 GW project is completed, it would help to fulfil the power requirements in Shaanxi, and also would supply power to Chongqing through the northwestern power grid.

The company entered into a framework agreement in August 2007 to construct a $2.2bn power plant. In January 2008, the company entered into a cooperation agreement with the municipal government of Chongqing and the government of Shaanxi province to construct the project.
