Doosan Škoda Power has been awarded a contract to supply two steam turbine generators with a total capacity of 110 MW for a new power plant to be built at an oil refinery operated by Petroperú.

The new power plant will be built as part of the Talara Refinery Modernisation (TRM) project. The project aims to modernise and expand the capacity of the Talara refinery to produce gasoline and gas, increase crude oil refining capacity and minimise waste.

The TRM project will also enable a reduction in the cost of raw materials processing and ensure energy self-sufficiency for the power plant. This is an important project in the Oil and Gas market in Latin America for the Pilsen-based steam turbine manufacturer.

“Thanks to the excellent operating capacity of our turbines in Mexico, Columbia and Chile we are a trustworthy partner for Petroperú and we are proud to contribute to the development of the energy industry in Peru,” says David Zeman, Sales Manager for Latin America in Doosan Škoda Power.

The DST-G20 controlled-extraction turbines are able to cope with high input stream parameters and demanding industrial environment conditions. Thanks to this they can ensure the safe and reliable operation of the refinery. The two 55 MW single-casing turbines, including the generator, will be designed and manufactured in the Plzeň-based production plant and supplied to EPC contractor, Cobra Peru S.A. Doosan Škoda Power will also provide technical assistance during assembly and commissioning. The power plant in the Talara refinery is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2019.

“So far, it is our largest installation in the Latin American power plant industry. This affirms the great reputation and technological advancement of steam turbines manufactured by Doosan Škoda Power. Again, we have proven our ability to supply high-tech turnkey products that are competitive on a global level,” David Zeman adds.
